I have always been passionate about music, both when listening and taking part. At school, I sing in various choirs, play the oboe in the orchestra and wind ensemble, and also play oboe in the Brighton and East Sussex Youth Orchestra.
However, it wasn’t until I was sailing across the Atlantic in November 2023 on a sailing boat with my Dad that I realised the power of music to lift the mood and change emotions. .
It made me think, if music can help in one set of challenging circumstances, maybe it could be used to help others facing different challenges. And that is why I decided to set up Lifting Minds and offer free concerts.

We are a group of students from Ardingly College in East Sussex, that provide free concerts in local care homes. With the support of our teachers, we aim to visit care homes either individually or as a small musical ensemble, provide a little anecdotal background to the music we're going to play and then put on a performance. We love feedback and chat from the residents and hope to join them for a cup of tea afterwards!
Toby - Oboe
Matthew - Guitar
Sam - Saxophone
Emily - Clarinet
